Sunset in Xinping

Xingping is a town in North Guangxi, China. It is 27 kilometers upstream from Yangshuo on the Li River. The town was initially settled in 265 AD, and was the regional centre for Yangshuo County until Yangshuo was settled in 590 AD. Like Yangshuo, Xingping is surrounded by great examples of Karst scenery, with one particularly prominent peak overlooking the village from the southern end of the shoreline against the Yi River, which is topped with a lookout which can be climbed too with relative ease by those with an adventurous spirit and a head for heights. Certainly, not as clean or developed as neighboring touristy Yangshuo, it nonetheless has a nice authentic feel to it complete with a few intact historical buildings and easy access to the Li River.

  2. Wahh! Awesome! I’ve been in China for the last two and a half years but haven’t made it over to this part of the country yet. I am taking a trip to Halong Bay in Vietnam to see the karst mountains there. Can’t wait!

I haven’t been to Halong Bay, but I can say that Xingping and the whole area was impressive.

I believe there are direct buses between Hanoi & Guilin. Guilin is only a short local bus drive away and also worth a visit.

Btw, the 20 Yuan note has a picture of the Xingping landscape: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/aa/20_yuan_note.jpg

      • Cool thanks for the tips! I’ll be spending the entire week in Vietnam ,no time for bus rides back to China when all I have is the national holiday week. Shanghai isn’t a far flight away from Guilin so I’ll make it there sometime. Have you made it to any other of the backgrounds on the other denominations? I’ve been to the 1 , 5, and 100 .

No, that was the only one but I guess they won’t go away, so plenty of time to check them out somewhere in the future…

    Have a safe trip!
